“Quady North is the poster child for high value, brilliantly made and compelling wines…”

since 1975 - 50 years of hustle

In 1975, the year I was born, my parents, Andy and Laurie, started our family winery with a few tons of California Zinfandel, making a port-style wine on the side in Lodi, California. Over decades, on nights and weekends, what started as a side-hustle became Quady Winery, a Central Valley winery specializing in Muscat and Vermouth.

Thirty years later, hoping to write a new chapter in our American wine story, I took this same spirit to the rugged Applegate Valley in Southern Oregon, creating Quady North in 2005. Working together with my wife and our families, we cleared land that had once been an old motocross track and planted a vineyard. We picked Syrah, Viognier and Cabernet Franc to start, not because they were popular, but because we believed they were the best choice for our region.

Working as a winemaker for a local winery, in 2006, I first worked out a deal to trade some of my pay in exchange for making wine on the side. My wife, trained as an artist, created our labels, sometimes sketching while our kids were at karate. My parents surveyed the land, my in-laws installed the vineyard. Along the way, we started a business planting and taking care of vineyards for others. Eventually, with some help from friends and a small bank loan, we bought some used equipment and were able to move into a winery of our own, first renting an old pear warehouse in South Medford, and later, building a new winery on our Applegate vineyard property.

Today, we remain inspired by the styles and traditions of the Rhône and Loire Valleys, making our wines from varieties such as Syrah, Viognier, Grenache, Mourvèdre, Marsanne, Roussanne, Cabernet Franc and Malbec. Keeping with tradition, we also create blends of those varieties, including our signature Rose’ of Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre (GSM), our red GSM, our white Rhône blend, and the "La Battalla” Loire red blend.

We’re here because we love it, and we live by a simple creed: “Work hard, make good wine, and don’t be an a**hole.”
