Syrahhhhhh
Everyone say, "fortooay"

2007 Syrah 4-2,A
Rogue Valley, Oregon

Total Production:

400 cases
Cases Available:
Release Date:
Fall 2009

Winemaker Notes:

2007 "4-2, A" is a blend of Syrah from the Serenade, Steelhead Run, Fly High (King Vineyard) and Sam's Valley Vineyards. Each of these vineyards contributes positively to the blend. Serenade provides warm, round fruit while the cooler Steelhead Run site gives classic aromatics and refreshing acidity. The Fly High Vineyard adjoins our Estate and provides an alluring licorice quality. Lastly, Sam's Valley Vineyard, by far the warmest site in Southern Oregon, contributes backbone and an underlying leather and spice. Larger barrels are favored for their more subtle oak contribution and slower aging properties preserving fruit and terroir. The name "4-2, A" was coined by our young daughter Margaux. "4-2,A" or "fortooay" (think Cabernet, Chardonnay, Viognier) was the varietal name she gave to her own impromptu blends of water and fruit juice.

Tasting Notes:
Aromas of anise, black cherry and white pepper evolve from the glass over time. The wine is substantial, but soft in style, with a lean, mineral profile. "4-2, A" is closer in style to the wines of the Northern Rhone.

Aging:
Racked to barrel day after pressing. Aged in large, 98 gal., French Oak barrels. Demptos and Francois Freres, 90% new and 10% 1 yr. old. Lees stirred regularly throughout the first quarter. Bottled unfined and unfiltered.

2006 Syrah, Steelhead Run Vineyard
Applgate Valley, Oregon
Total Production :

20 cases
Cases Available :
Release Date :

February 2010

Winemaker Notes:

The 2006 Steelhead Run Syrah is the last of our releases from the heralded 2006 Vintage. Made from fruit sourced entirely from the Steelhead Run Vineyard, this Syrah is the most reminiscent of those classic offerings from the Northern Rhone.

Steelhead Run is the coolest, most moderate vineyard in our portfolio. This is largely due to the tempering influence of the brisk Applegate River that adjoins it. The wines from Steelhead are subtle and refined, capable of extended aging.

Tasting Notes:
Although somewhat reluctant to evolve, the aroma profile in this bottle is quite classic. Notes of white pepper and baking spice overlay aromas of plums. Clean and bright throughout with decent acidity and balanced tannins. Should age very well, 10 years or more.
